This table gives the descriptions of the different states for a certificate:

ValidOn HoldExpiredRevoked

Start state.

All issued certificates will be in the state valid.

The certificate is on hold.

The certificate is put on hold and will not be valid for usage. This is not a permanent revocation.

The certificate has expired.

The validity date of the certificate has expired. The certificate is no longer usable.

This is a final state.

The certificate was revoked.

The certificate is permanently revoked and is no longer valid for usage.

This is a final state.
