Smart ID Mobile App combines online two-factor authentication (2FA) using push notifications and offline one-time password (OTP) authentication in a single mobile app. This article includes some questions and answers for the Smart ID Mobile App end-user as well as some common uses.

The Smart ID Mobile App user should have control over who is using the mobile phone or tablet and select a hard-to-guess pin code for Smart ID Mobile App that is not revealed to others. Smart ID Mobile App is a personal identity document and should be treated as such.

How to use the mobile app

Download the Smart ID Mobile App and follow the instructions from your service provider to activate your mobile virtual smart card.

Example: Activate Smart ID Mobile App with a QR code

  1. Start Smart ID Mobile App on your mobile device. 
  2. Click the QR code symbol on the bottom of the page. 
  3. Scan the QR code. 
  4. Select a PIN and enter it when prompted. 
  5. If fingerprint or face recognition is available on your mobile device, choose to activate them or not.  
  6. If you get the option, select a layout of your choice.
    Depending on the configuration, the layout might already be configured for you, and you don't get this choice. 

Enter your PIN or use the biometrics you have chosen to authenticate.

If the mobile virtual smart card has a back side layout configured, then it is marked with an arrow symbol. 

To display the back side of a card: 

  1. Start Smart ID Mobile App on your mobile device. 
  2. On the virtual smart card, click on the arrow symbol on the bottom right.
  3. Verify your identity with PIN or biometrics.
  4. Swipe your finger over the display for proof of authenticity.

How to manage PIN

The PIN of a mobile virtual smart card can be changed at any time: 

  1. Start Smart ID Mobile App on your mobile device. 
  2. Click on the mobile virtual smart card for which you want to change the PIN. 
  3. Click on Change PIN on the bottom of the page. 
  4. Enter the new PIN.

For security reasons, the PIN is not stored anywhere, so there is no way to get it back. Instead, you must reactivate the mobile virtual smart cards for the connected services.
