Windows use cases with tokens via Smart ID Desktop App

The following Windows-related use cases for virtual smart cards and other tokens are supported with Smart ID Desktop App

  • Windows logon, logging in to a PC or laptop
  • TLS client cert authentication in Microsoft Edge
  • Remote access using VPN or direct access
  • Native app integration through MS crypto APIs CAPI or CNG
  • Secure email using S/MIME

Independently of Smart ID Desktop App, the following use cases also apply:

  • Document protection by signing or encryption
  • BitLocker drive encryption for data volumes

If you connect to another computer using remote desktop, the virtual smart card on the remote computer is disabled.
