This article describes how to increase the security for your ID cards, using Nexus GO Cards.
A card can be used for a wide range of applications, for visual identification with a photo, for access control using one or two RFID technologies, and for logging in to your cloud services in a secure way, using PKI technology.

Use safe RFID technologies in cards or key fobs
Nexus GO Cards supports the most common RFID technologies on the market. To increase the security level for your cards, we recommend the use of MIFARE DESFire EV2.
Add visual security elements to cards
Increase your card security further by adding visual security elements, such as hotstamp, UV-print and micro text, which makes the card harder to forge or copy. See below for more information.

Visual security elements
Holograms are images allowing for a quick visual authentication. Holograms typically become visible or transformed when tilted or viewed at certain angles. Holograms can be added to ID cards as a holographic laminate, a holographic foil or 2D/3D image on the surface of the card.
Hotstamp - hot stamping of a Hologram
This security method requires a three-dimensional image with flat surface in the form of a photographic film. Hot stamping involves using a metallic foil to embed a line pattern or a logo into the card. Looking at the image from different angles creates the impression of a three-dimensional object. Its presence can be easily verified with the naked eye. A hologram cannot be copied by any printing technique. It is the best optical security application out there.
UV-print (UV ink)
UV print is considered a Level 2 security feature because the images are not visible to the naked eye. Instead, they only emerge when a UV light source is present. The UV print can be logos, images or text and is used as an added security on the card so that duplication of the card is close to impossible.
Micro text/mini print
Micro text is often used on highly secure ID cards and is very difficult to reproduce. Upon visual examination, micro text appears as a regular thin line on an ID badge, but when inspected using a microscope or magnifying glass, the lines are actually repeating text that say authentic, genuine, or valid. Unlike most add-on security features, real micro text printing requires industrial equipment to produce, which limits this option to pre-printed cards.
Variable laser engraving
Laser engraving is a highly secure method of monochrome card personalization that etches features into the card body itself. This provides tamper proof and highly durable personalization, making forgery and manipulation virtually impossible. Attempts to alter engraved information will result in visually evident card damage.
Can be made as a text or an image, for example a smaller copy of a photograph or image printed elsewhere on the card
A series of finely printed lines created by a mathematical formula. The effect, used extensively in currency, features curved interwoven patterns. Guilloche patterns provide a watermark style backdrop to your cards, similar to those used on banknotes and passports! These are difficult to replicate accurately. Guilloche are complex geometric patterns that consist of numerous fine, interwoven lines. Because each pattern is uniquely generated, exact reproduction is nearly impossible.
Holographic laminates provides a thin, protective covering to secure the personalized data on ID cards against alteration and daily wear and tear. Custom hologram printing helps prevent counterfeiting. These are thin transparent films that contain holographic text, images, and patterns. Some high-end holographic overlaminates also feature microtext printing for added security. This thin holographic lamination film overlay is designed to work with a wide variety of plastic ID card substrates, including PVC, composite PVC, PET and PC.
