Windows use cases with tokens via Smart ID Desktop App
The following Windows-related use cases for virtual smart cards and other tokens are supported with Smart ID Desktop App:
- Windows logon, logging in to a PC or laptop
- TLS client cert authentication in Microsoft Edge
- Remote access using VPN or direct access
- Native app integration through MS crypto APIs CAPI or CNG
- Secure email using S/MIME
Independently of Smart ID Desktop App, the following use cases also apply:
- Document protection by signing or encryption
- BitLocker drive encryption for data volumes
If you connect to another computer using remote desktop, the virtual smart card on the remote computer is disabled.
