Firefox interoperability for Personal Desktop Client

Starting with version 90, Firefox has changed the way it uses smart cards and client certificates on Windows and macOS. Read more here: https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2021/07/28/making-client-certificates-available-by-default-in-firefox-90/.

From this version onwards, PKCS#11 module is not necessary and should, in fact, be disabled or removed from Firefox on Windows and macOS to avoid duplicating client certificates from Windows Certificate Store or macOS Keychain, respectively.

To do this in Firefox:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Security > Security Devices.
  2. Select Nexus Personal PKCS#11 module.

  3. Click Unload.

The Linux platform is unaffected by this Firefox change.
