Device definitions in Digital Access

This article describes device definitions in Smart ID Digital Access component.

How is a device definition used?

In Digital Access component, devices (laptops, mobile phones, and so on) are used in numerous settings, for example, in access rules to control access for specific devices. Device definitions define how HTTP headers in requests are interpreted to identify specific devices. Device definitions are also used for client firewalls when creating firewall rules to control traffic to and from the Access Client in Digital Access.

Device definitions can be used in client firewall settings, for more information about this, click here.

About Device definition for Client firewall

Client firewalls can be used to specify rules based on the path or checksum of the process that is trying to connect to the Internet. To make this possible, you must first add a device definition that specifies the values of the path, and/or checksum of the process. There are two variables that can be used in device definitions that is used by client firewalls. These are:

  • clientfirewall-path
  • clientfirewall-checksum

Only device definitions containing these variables can be used in the client firewall rules.
