This table gives the descriptions of the different states for a certificate:

Start state. All issued certificates will be in the state valid. |
The certificate is on hold. The certificate is put on hold and will not be valid for usage. This is not a permanent revocation. |
The certificate has expired. The validity date of the certificate has expired. The certificate is no longer usable. This is a final state. |
The certificate was revoked. The certificate is permanently revoked and is no longer valid for usage. This is a final state. |
